Xmas Wishlist (w/ Tech History Lesson)

Well the top Xmas item on my list this year is an old gold wool sweater with a big white 'T' on the chest like the above picture. In case you are wondering the above picture is of the first Georgia Tech Football Team of 1893. After the students in 1981 decided on the school's official colors of white, gold, and blue they worn them to the game between Georgia and Auburn for which they were invited. Georgia had instructed the Tech students at the game to cheer for a Wildcat victory (UGA was the Wildcats before the Bulldogs). On November 4th, 1983 the Tech boys returned to Athens to play and dealt Georgia a 28-6 loss. Tech students also persuaded a group of women from nearby college to come and cheer on the boys while wearing white and gold (hence why it is in our fight song). After the Tech victory the football team was chased to train station being pelted with rocks all the way.

I once saw an eBay auction for such a sweater and was outbid in the closing minutes of the auction. Since then I have looked once in a while but have come up empty handed. Anyone who finds a sweater like this will instantly be in my debt. If finding such a sweater is beyond your grasp well you can just get me something off my ThinkGeek and Amazon wishlists.

Pop-Up Apology

Let me apologize to those of you who might have gotten some pop-ups while visiting Mr. P'body's Place in the past week or so. Seems as though that some malware-isk stuff had attached itself to the Secret Santa image that I had in the banner above. Now this is the first time this has ever happened to this site and I don't think it was intentional by the Thinkblank crew either. They are using old images from last year and might have got infected sometime last year. I have sent and email to the crew to let them know.

** Update **
Turns out it was not Secret Santa/Thinkblank that the pop-ups are coming from. In fact I am still not sure since it seems to happen randomly on my site. Further investigation will follow.

That is what the Georgia fan said as Hakeber and I passed him talking on his cell phone. Yesterday was just a great day for some fall weather football. It was cold but I was already snuggled deep in my liquid blanket to notice. It was a long and grueling game and unfortunately for this alum, the bulldogs were victorious once again. All in all it was good game and TECH played well up until the 4th quarter where the team fell apart. I still remember being in the stands way back in 1998 when TECH kicked a winning field goal in the closing seconds of the game, but now of course I am told that those games never took place to begin with. It all just disgusts me. TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!!!

It's Secret Santa Time!

Don't let the cat out of the bag

Santa thinks your friends are lazy.
Bad with presents, he has heard.
They'd be as liked as Patrick Swayze,
If with an e-card they are spurred

To join in with the Christmas fun.
(They'll thank you in the longer run)
Because with Santa everyone
(That's every single mother's son
Who ever heard a number one
Or fired an anti-aircraft gun
Or saw the Arctic's midnight sun
Or sausaged a frankfurter bun
Or sneaked into the chicken run
And ate raw eggs by metric ton
Or thought that Stalin should have won)
Can give and get with everyone.

Dirty Limerick?

There once was a man from Nantucket,
Whos dick was so long he could...

Suck it people! Last night's APWBWGTTD meet-up at the Limerick Junction was probably one of the best events for all of November and if you weren't there you must have had something else to do that night you thought was more important. How wrong you were.

The new guy this month was Duane Moody. Let me tell you he is a fabulous guy. I hope he continues to come to this events and I do look forward to reading his blog as it has been added to feed. Hey Matt, you didn't link he site correctly on site...fix it!

I was worried that the place was gonna be lame when I first got there after 7:30. Our group was practically the only people in the whole bar. But the place sure liven up after 9:00 and soon the place was jumping with lots of people, irish singing, and irish car bombs going off (...err down?) Thanks must go again to Lori for playing such a wonderful hostess again.

2-for-1 Wednesdays

Tonight is Chick-Fil-A 2-for-1 Wednesday at Phillips Arena. Great way to get some good seats without having to pay a bunch of money. So Hakeber and I will be there to cheer on the Trashers (7-9-1) as they take on the Islanders (9-9-0). What you gonna do for fun tonight?

So this weekend I was in Lithonia, GA for my first disc golf tournment. I had an absolute blast playing against other people. I could have fun cause I am still at a novice playing ability. The weather was perfect both days and everyone was friendly. I must say I did have a much better time than I thought I would because it was partly competitive. Well you could tell there was some tension among all the pro open players and a little among the advanced amatuer players.

The first day was a little rough during the first round. Although I shot a 73 which is close to my average to the course, I knew I could do a lot better. So I grabbed myself two hotdogs at lunch break and took a little nap during the lunch break in the back of my truck (having a fiberglass cover and carpeted bedliner is always nice for that). The second round I was with the ladies group cause I shot the worst round out of all the players in the field. Let me tell you if I could play with them again I would with no questions asked. No matter if I had a pull on the teepad that was straight down the fairway or smacked a tree on a mid-range shot I was always met with positive comments. Those ladies put me in the right mindset for the rest of the tourney. The 3rd and 4th round I spent among my equals. Going into the 4th round I was only one stroke ahead of the guy in last place and by the end of the round I had increaed that lead. I had obtained my goal of not coming in last place.

Will I be going to more tourneys in the future...hells yes. While talking to some of the pro players at the bar for the award ceremony they were amazed that I had done so well with having so little experience. Even though I didn't win any money, I still walked away with a butt load of tips and an increased desire to play.

Today was a good day (even though I got a speeding ticket)

For those of you who are keeping count that makes 3 speeding tickets within a 3 year period. In order it is 82 in a 55, 78 in a 55, and 61 in a 45. Barry needs to slow down! What made the day good despite the ticket was who was in the truck with me. Tanner Duncan contacted me through the discgolfatlanta forums and I picked him up from the GWCC. He was there for a trade show and wanted to go out discgolfing but didn't have a rental to get there. I picked him up and we went to have lunch at the Vortex in Little 5 (his treat) and then headed out to Redan Park. He said he liked the course alot and we were able to get in two rounds before sundown.

For those of you who have no idea (and probably don't care much) about disc golf, Tanner is a pro-level player. Imagine you are playing ball golf and a PGA tour regular comes up to you and says, "Hey, would you like play and I will give you some tips to help your game." Oh heck, just pick your favorite professional sport and pick any player in the top 20% of that sport and that is what Tanner is like. It was truly amazing to see him drive the disc down the field. The best part was he really did have a good time playing with me, even though I am way lower in classification than he is.

Thanks Tanner for the tips and don't worry about the speeding ticket. Next time I am in Iowa I will hit you up.

London Trip

Finally got around to putting up the pictures from the trip to Ireland and London that the Georgia Tech Band took when they were gonna to perform in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin back in 2001. It took over a year to plan the trip and a few months before we were to go was the outbreak of foot and mouth in the UK. We had committed ourselves to the trip so had to go. We walked across mats soaked in cholrine coming and going from the airport. The parade itself was moved from Dublin to some horse race track in the middle of nowhere. The day of the parade it was so cold and wet that we didn't even perform. I don't think many others did cause there were no spectators. The rest of the trip was just pub crawl. I am surprised I got so many shots as I did. I mean the damn hotel we stayed at in Dublin had four bars in it alone. If one closed you could just wander over to the next and drink for another couple hours. Forgive me for not knowing the names for all the places cause it was such a long time ago. Did I mention the whole band was drinking themselves silly? All in all it was a great trip and it allowed Hakeber and I to sneak off and do our own thing a lot of the time.

Happy November!

So this was an action packed weekend for me. Saturday was Georgia Tech's Homecoming versus Climpsun and it couldn't have been a more perfect day for football. After getting much flack from certain individuals last year that Hakeber and I weren't in the Alumni Band we decided to do it once again. This time I was prepared and was packing a flask (full of apple juice, yeah that's the ticket). Rehearsal started at 11am so we had some tailgating time before we had to be there. After rehearsal? More tailgating and eventually the game. Tech won (which surprised the hell out of me) and the RATs got to lose their caps. Grabbed some Wendy's on the way home (the first real meal I had all day) and fell asleep.

Sunday was disc golf with the crew. I changed the started time and the location for this weeks venture and the location worked out nicely. The time did not work out apparently. I moved the time for the normal 11am start time to 1pm for those who might be coming from church. One of the people I thought might benefit from the changed start time didn't show up and eventually we had people dropping off due to other commitments that were scheduled for later in the day. I know the last thing isn't my fault but I shouldn't expect that everyone wants a full day for disc golf when they only want to play 3 hours worth. Sometimes I could play another round but I don't say anything because I can see some people want to get home and do other things.

Yesterday was Halloween of course and the apartment was decorated up to look like no one was home and void of candy. The first year we moved into the apartment it was a different story. We had a pumpkin and lights on and tons of candy. No trick-or-treaters though. I guess we just gave up after that. Anyways the money saved on a pumpkin can go toward a bigger Xmas tree. Word on the street this year was that we actually had a handful of kiddies in the neighborhood. But Hakeber and I decided to go and visit the Stevensons in East Point. On the way we found all the lost trick-or-treaters in their neighborhood. I seriously had to drive under 5 mph to avoid kids darting out from behind vehicles. We got to their house and I mixed myself a strong drink (seeing that many kids can do that to me) and decided to watch Saw (of which I have never seen). I love horror/triller movies (especially ones about zombies/undead) but Hakeber doesn't. So this means I usually don't see them anymore. But last night I had my way and the movie was pretty good. It was midnight before we left their place and made our way back home.

I am still a little tired from it all. A good tired though.
