Wow, a post not about disc golf

So I am being the good fiancé today by taking Hakeber's Saturn in for its 15K mile service. I don't mind cause Saturn of Decatur has wi-fi access. Which of course is allowing me to type this entry right now. May the wonders of modern technology never cease. So I have about an hour they say before the car will be ready and I get to sit here and listen to Live with Geraldo and Kelly. Save me now! Thought the show was bad enough with Regis but apparently they invited Geraldo Rivera to guest host wih Kelly. The only thing that is kinda strange is that Google search is blocked by Saturn. They have an interesting Terms of Service Policy that I think is blocking me cause I am using Firefox. Yep, just tested it using IE and it works fine. Guess they are just trying to keep Mozilla down. And in response to the two posts about Wi-Fi from Daniel on Metblogs I would have top agree that having a place that has Wi-Fi access is more likely to get my business than another who doesn't. Just recently my local hangout, Cheyenne Grille, got Wi-Fi and three HD plasma screen TVs. Now I am not sure if they got the Wi-Fi cause of demand but most likely cause they are part of the Metrotainment Cafes (or they just got rich over how much money I have spent there in the past year). Nevertheless I might actually bring the laptop in one of these days and enjoy some of the free access that I can't help to think I donated to in some sort of way.

Small website redesign

Thought since the cold has so quickly came upon us as the Shelbinator was so quick to point out I figured that site needed a little color update. I meant to do something after I reinstalled MT 3.2 but never got around to do it until now. Well maybe I just did cause I didn't want to go disc golfing with all these bug bites over my body. I seriously think the mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas were making a last minute meal of me before the cold snap. I didn't see them all until last night when it took forever to get to sleep cause of all the bites on my legs and arms. Hell I will probably go out disc golfing sometime this week despite of all the itching. I also added a small picture I found on the interweb to the top of the site. Got the idea from Mark I must say. He likes wine. I like the sound a disc makes when it hits the chains and falls into the basket from a distance of over 30 feet. I took the color scheme from the picture. This will probably be around until I can get a decent picture of disc golf target in snow for the winter. Remember folks, this is just fall, winter is still two months away!

iPod meme

Taken from Lori
Here are the first 10 songs that appear at random:

1. Do Right - Jimmie's Chicken Shack (3:02)
Remember these guys...doubt it...one hit wonder

2. Bedrock Anthem - Weird Al Yankovic (3:45)
Yes I do like Weird Al but only in small doses.

3. City Love - John Mayer (4:00)
I can remember back in the day when I saw John Mayer perform at Midtown as like the second act and even opened up for Guster one year. Things change once you win a Grammy I guess. Still a good song.

4. Exodus - Bob Marley & The Wailers (7:35)
Bob Marley....goodtimes...

5. Thinking About You - Radiohead (2:41)
A great song off their first major album. Sometimes I like the old Radiohead versus the new one.

6. Under Pressure - The Used w/ My Chemical Romance (3:32)
Cover of the Queen/David Bowie version and I think they did a great job. They really gave it a favor all their own.

7. Speak To Me/Breathe - Pink Floyd (4:00)
Ever seen Dark Side of the Rainbow? I have. :)

8. Mother - Goldie (1:00:15)
Yes, that is an hour long song folks. And probably one of the best techno songs you will ever hear. The first twenty minutes you might think you are listening to a symphony.

9. How Do You Do? - Radiohead (2:12)
Another great cut off of Pablo Honey.

10. Butterfly - Weezer (2:53)
The forgotten sophomore album by Weezer does have a few good songs on it. This is one of those.

It was to be Wills Park around 11am this morning but apparent there was a German Shepard dog show scheduled on the first three holes. So we played the back 15 and had a great time. Got some good pictures but I think I should have taken a lot more than I did. So after that we made our way over to Taco Mac and watch some football with some T.M.I. wings (and beers for me). After that we headed over to East Roswell Park for the second dosage of disc golfing. Much more people there and we even gained a member after losing one after lunch. I came in second at Wills and then third I think at East Roswell. Why can't this be my job?

I see band people

Went to the Collins Hill Eagle Nest Invitational Marching Band Exhibition today. Try and say that three times fast. Anyways I got to see my own high school alma mater perform and some other good bands as well. After I graduated, the band really changed directions and started competing on a national level. I guess I was just holding them back. It was funny to be amongst the band people again. Truly a strange breed (along with the parents that beget them too). We left right before the awards were to be given out, cause that takes like an hour. Token invited us over to his place to watch Fever Pitch. It was to be expected. Well tomorrow will be a big day....full day of disc golfing.

Why Do They Rock So Hard?

Remember when people actually listened to Ska? I sure do and it a little less than 10 years ago that Ska actually hit it big. Oddly enough it was about the same time that Swing music made a comback as well but that is beside the point. It just kinda hit me this morning as I was waiting for the COH servers to come back online that you don't hear any Ska music being played anymore....anywhere. Now I know that a few of the bigger bands still tour but nothing like it was back in in the mid to late '90s. If I had to give the trophy to a single band for starting the Ska flash fire I would have to give it to Reel Big Fish's 1996 debut album. Now an arguement could be made for No Doubt who created a stir with their Tragic Kingdom album in 1995, cause they did start out as a Ska/Punk band with their first release in 1992. I discount them for they did not stay true to their roots and actually grew and changed with pop culture. Bah!

Anyways Ska music was a great genre that could encompass a lot of different emotions in a single song. What am I kinding...half the damn songs were just funny. If you actually took Ska as being a serious genre you would find yourself almost all alone...but that is okay cause you didn't really care and usually rejected many social and fashion norms. White people wearing Kangols...Ska probably saved the company from debt. As a young saxophonist myself at the time Ska hit it big I must say the appeal of rocking the stage without having to sing or play guitar (cause I can't do either to save my life) was tremdous. In fact I got together with a bunch of guys in 1997 to form a Ska/Funk band. It lasted all of 5 minutes. Ska music forever changed my life and dang it I still love the music. So enjoy some samples people...

Top 5 Played Ska Songs on my iPod:
Big Lick - 7 Grand
Reel Big Fish - All I Want Is More
Mephiskapheles - Bumble Bee Tuna Song
Skoidats - Granted
Reel Big Fish - I Want Your Girlfriend To Be My Girlfriend

Google Game

Stole from here who stole it from here.

Simply Google your name, with the word "needs" following.
Example (for the Common Sense Challenged) "Barry needs"
Then, blog the five funniest results.

Barry needs a drink (I always need a drink, dammitt!)
Barry needs to be knighted (Hells yeah, that is Sir Barry to you)
Barry needs to slow down! (2 speeding tickets and one ran red light...yeah I DO need to slow down)
Barry needs to show what is wrong with my replies to posited criticisms or give his own unanswerable example (I will show what is wrong with your replies using interpretive dance)
Barry needs to belly slide to stop (Man do I miss Slip-n-Slide)

I usually never talk about politics. It is just one of those topics you know to never bring up during any conversation. Everyone has their own opinion and I repsect that. However when someone tries to convince me that their belief is the "correct" one is just what drives me up the wall. Hence I never bring up religion, sex, and politics in most conversations. But Mankelly's stance on pregancy/abortion started me thinking about my own thoughts about the subject. Now I am not going to go into my own ideas of the pregnacy/abortion debate but rather just put up my own results from the polticial compass. For a graph just click here and you might get an idea of where I might stand. Oh yeah, and even though I don't smoke marijuana and have never done it ever...legalize it! The government could get rid of the nation's debt just with the maryjane tax alone. Thanks to Joe for the compass.

Oh well, I am sure they will be back sometime next year and maybe even at a bigger venue.

Went over to the stove and took the lid off one of the pots and the smell quickly became 10 fold. I couldn't breathe or even see straight for a second. I went back into the kitchen this time armed with the cameraphone and deep breath of fresh air from the living room and took this pic. While holding my breath still I moved it to the trash can and placed the trash outside. But it was too late. My apartment now smells like moldly broccoli. Even the cat has positioned himself next to the open window furthest from the kitchen. I was hungry when I went into the kitchen but no longer. So thanks must go out to Hakeber's science experiment for curing me of my desire to ever eat again.

The Daily Routine

Wake up around 9am, play some City Of Heroes until lunch, break for lunch and then go disc golfing, come back for dinner and then wrap up the evening with more City Of Heroes. Sound like the perfect schedule. Well maybe just for me. Anyways this needs to end soon, and unfortunately it will. I am going to talk to my advisor tomorrow and get him to hopefully fill out a reference form for me to actually get a job as a substitute teacher. In addition we are gonna talk about getting started on Masters thesis again. This week is just action packed. Plus I have the Aqualung concert tomorrow as well.
