'D' is for Done

Well after staying up most of the night, I finally got "done" with my final term paper. I say "done" because it was no where near the page length requirement. I can only hope I have turned in short papers all semester, the professor will just be use to it by now. Now I am off to deposit some money in the bank, grab a 40 oz of beer, and maybe watch a movie on the couch. God damn, I am so tired right now.

Everything is in its place...

I got a call this morning from my dad asking me about the earthquake. I was like, "Earthquake? What earthquake?" I guess I slept thought it. I probably actually slept harder because I though I had a vibrating bed for a moment. So just like in true Redneck Georgia fashion, they already have a ton of people describing what the earthquake sounded/felt like. People in California just have to be laughing at this right now. Oh yeah, did I mention that the epicenter wasn't even in Georgia? Oh well, back to the paper...

Works Sucks

I need a new job. I didn't think it was so bad about a month ago, but now it is looking deary. The new manager for the store has put in his 2 week notice. He has only been there for like less than a month. I hear he is headed to Tire Kingdom or something like that. Another guy just quit this week, but I didn't like him that much so I wasn't feeling that bad about that. He was stealing other people's researvations...which is bad when you are on commission. What made matters worse was that another guy is no transferring to another store to become assistant manager. So now were are gonna be shorthanded by like two people for the next couple weeks. I am gonna loathe work the next few weeks.

glad to see the weekend come

Yeah, time for another Friday Five!

1. What was the last TV show you watched?
That is a tough one cause I haven't watched TV too much recently. I think I saw Comic Remix on Comedy Central last. That was a while back though. It is tough to watch TV when you are writing a term paper in a single day.

2. What was the last thing you complained about?
Check it! I think the term paper in a single day is the front runner.

3. Who was the last person you complimented and what did you say?
Probably someone at work yesterday. I usually tell the technicans if they did a good job or something like that. Can't remember who was the last one though.

4. What was the last thing you threw away?
ADSL modem....thing doesn't work anymore.

5. What was the last website (besides this one) that you visited?
Drudge Report....that place is like crack for me. I am constantly wanting to know the current news.

Burning the midnight oil...

Proceed to watch the procrastination master at work. In about 15 hours from now, my final paper for my Adult Learning is due. The nice thing is that I can email it to the prof when I am finished. What makes this night fun is that I have gotten most of my resources today and will be proceeding to write up a "semester-long" paper in less than a day. I just pray that writers block won't strike when dawn hits. Wish me luck....

Food for thought

Let me take this time to jot down a few ideas running through my head. In the next 36 hours I will be writing and hopefully completing a paper on wisdom. Now after reading a couple articles so far on the subject, I have a few opinions based on those articles.

Most theorists agree that age and wisdom do not correlate very well. This means that age is not a precurser to wisdom and vice versa. Just because you are old doesn't mean you are wise. One theorist believes that the opposite is true, as you grow older you lose your wisdom abilities. That when you are born, you carry a certain amount of wisdom from birth and it slowly begins to decline over the years. He backs he idea based on proverbs in the Bible and outstanding and wise young individuals like Anne Frank. Very interesting thought I must say.

Another common assumption among wisdom researchers is the fact that wisdom is related to tacit knowledge. Tacit knowledge is of course procedural knowledge that is gained through experience. This is sometimes called "street smarts" in its raw form but extends beyond that. An example of tacit knowledge would be when you have bad news to deliver to someone but it is their birthday so you wait so as to not ruin their day. What makes this even more interesting is that these two theories then clash. One states that it starts in the beginning and you lose it over time, the other then states that you gain wisdom over time through experiences.

In my opinion, wisdom based on tacit knowledge is a little easier to swallow. Now taking this train of thought, you have to wonder what we are trying to teach kids in school today. Primary schools mainly teach factual knowledge. This is to say once you graduate high school you should be able to spout off that Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark, that 3+3=6, and many other things. How does this prepare someone for the real world through. Their counter claim now is that it is preparing and student to go into college where more factual knowledge will be learned. What does this do to the student? How does this help a student who doesn't plan to go to college?

It would be my arguement that instead of the rigors of mathematics and grammer taught in schools, we need to develop a student's tacit knowledge as well to prepare them for life outside the home and school. Developing methods to train the student in many "commonsense" activites would give the student better tools to deal with the world.

Easter Weekend Review

As dusk begins to tap on my window, John Coltrane comes on my Winamp playlist telling me I have a long night ahead of me. Two presentations I am working on tonight. After that are two papers (one this week, one next week). I must say it was a real relaxing Easter weekend to get me off on the right foot. I tried reading over the weekend but it just didn't work out. Friday night was dinner with Davey and his Chica at On The Border. Later that night GB came by to be the life of the party as usual. Saturday night was magic time with Guster. The opening band, Wheat, wasn't too bad but Guster brought down the house. When the Thundergod (who normally doesn't sing) sang Bridge Over Troubled Water for the last song, I about died. Easter Sunday was of course spent with my parents. It was nice seeing my dog and washing my truck for once.

April 18, 2003

Friday already?

Yep, it is time for another Friday Five!

1. Who is your favorite celebrity?
I would have to go with Edward Norton on this one. I saw the trialer for The Italian Job and I must say that every one of his movies seems to kick even more ass than the last. Of course you can't beat Fight Club. 25th Hour was really good too.

2. Who is your least favorite?
Anna Nicole Smith hands down! What was E! thinking when they gave her her own show. The thought of her alone makes my ass twitch.

3. Have you ever met or seen any celebrities in real life?
Besides local news anchors and local rock band members....nope, can't say I have.

4. Would you want to be famous? Why or why not?
Of course I would like to be famous. Then I could walk straight into clubs without the bouncer stopping me because of my shoes or hat. When you are famous, doors open for you every where you go.

5. If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why?
Strong Bad...yeah you heard me correctly. I mean the guy has to be a celebreity after 69 emails and countless other shorts. I would love to answer one of craptacular emails.

The Evening Post

Ya'll knew it was going to happen sometime. Three posts in a single day. And of course it hits when I have so much other work I should be doing. Guess this means I will be staying up late all next week to do stuff. Since the dog thing went donw earlier, I knew I had to get something for Hakeber. What better than her favorite bunny commercial! Well she actually found it and then I ripped it from another site so she could download it for herself. And everyone else should enjoy it as well.

Interesting Afternoon

After trying to see if Hakeber wanted to go to lunch and getting shot down I decided to head out on my own. Went to a Buffalo's Cafe', grabbed a beer and struck up a conversation with a Gulf War I vet. He was pretty funny, especially all the stories he told about what they did over there. He did say that everything was pretty surreal for him when he was over there. He also said that the movie Three Kings was pretty on target about how much wealth there was over there lying around in bunkers. Perhaps one of the funniest stories he told me was about when he woke up with a camel spider on his face in the night. I couldn't even begin to describe the event as well as he could, but just imagine someone trying to chase a spider around the room that can go over 25 mph with a boot in one hand. After finishing my brew I headed out and saw Bulletproof Monk. I must say the movie was pretty good. The only parts I didn't like was when they made bulletproof jokes. The worst part of the movie was the title and the puns, everything else was pretty good. Definitely should check it out when it hits DVD though.

Easy Morning...

So this morning I awoke to the sounds of what I thought was a Gold Skulltula. I guess you can tell I have been playing too much Zelda then. Turns out it was just a jack hammer off in the distance. In any event, it was nice to sleep in a bit even though I have like two papers and two presentations over the next couple weeks. So before I head out to get a haircut, I like to give a few shout outs to my peeps...

This goes out to Davey my Asian Pride roomie from college.
This goes out to Hibbidy whose Guinea pig pissed on my one time.
This goes out to my GF who doesn't like dogs.

more updates

Yeah, with movabletype, this website is like crack for me. I just can't stop working on it. Today's update consisted of editing the archive and such. Now everything looks smooth and if it doesn't let me know so I can work on it. With this design, I can make little changes to the whole site at once. It is just good times....

Ghoti = Fish

Today in my cognitive development class I learned that ghoti is fish. Let me explain... If you were brought up under a phonics regime, you probably would never get this. It is only when you take some of the stranger portions of the English language can you begin to piece this together. Ghoti is a made up word from pieces of other words where common phonics does not apply. Here is how it breaks down:

gh -> from 'laugh'
o -> from 'women'
ti -> from 'nation'

Now put all those sounds together and you get 'fish'. Just sound it out....it works. That is all, it really isn't all that special but I thought it was funny when you think about how the English language is so messed up like that.

Another case of the Mondays

I have been listening to Guster constantly gearing up for the concert this weekend. I mean it hasn't even been a year since I last saw them and I am already psyched about it. Of course last time I saw them was at Lakewood (they call it Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheatre now) along with John Mayer. Even though they were both headlining the tour, you could tell that there were many more Mayer fans there than Gusteroids. Plus I missed the first couple of songs of Guster because I had to get Hakeber a chicken sandwich. Anyways, they are playing at the Tabernacle this time where I have seen them twice before....gonna get there early and get a sweet seat in the second level. Wonder if I can sneak my camera in there too.

We are one day away....apparent all will be revealed tomorrow on 8march2003.com. It had been a while since I had visited the site and the author put a lot more info on there. I am still really not sure what to make of it all. I hope nothing happens cause those tickets aren't refundable.

Let me just say that this is probably the best news I have heard in a long time. Oh yeah, get ready for Nintendo Hour! And check out the new Honda ad over in England.

April 13, 2003

A day away from the computer...

That is right...Hakeber needs to use the computer so I am only on for a sec while I update and then she boots me off again. She has a paper due and doesn't want to use her old computer (166 MHz strong) to do it. Of course once she gets enough money, she will probably buy a computer that is better, faster, and stronger than mine. Is it just me or does that new AOL Broadband ad pretty funny. I mean I hate AOL with a vengence, but spoofing the Six Million Dollar Man was pretty orginial. So after she get done with her paper, I am gonna treat her to some purring kitty. Too bad she doesn't have a Nokia phone. Hey, check out this crazy video. So she has already come back in the room demanding me to get off the computer so she can work on her paper again...check you kids later.

Done for now

Alright, so I changed a major portion of this site over to php. I know it is crazy...I would have swore a year ago that I would have never used php on my site. Well thanks to SnazzyKat and Hakaber, I now have php on my site. So now I am messing around with the archiving stuff to see what I like. So while you wait for me to finish, check out these cool things I found.

public service announcment

In case you are wondering why the site might be looking strange...I am working on it as we speak. Please be patience...it will be back in all its glory soon.

A day off from work...

Finally got a day off from work and it happened to be one that fell on the weekend. This is just plain scary. I slept in til about 12:30pm. I even remembering waking up around 9:30am wondering when/if the alarm will be going off signaling my return to work. I was just too use to having to do that everyday, it felt weird to stay in bed. Of course I now feel rested. The next sad thing is I know I should work on homework all day to get sorta caught up but I would rather work on this webpage. Such a delemma....

April 11, 2003

Pay Day for me...

Oh yeah....it another Friday Five!

1. What was the first band you saw in concert?
Alright, so this is embarrassing. I guess my first concert I ever saw was when I was dragged to a Michael Bolton/Kenny G concert by my parents. Let me say, I hated every minute of it. I even think I fell asleep while I was there. The first concert I actually went to by my own choosing was Dave Matthews Band back in 1996. This was right after their Crash album came out. They were still a jam band back then and it was good times.

2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?
Well I guess right now I like Coldplay, 50 Cent, Jimmy Eat World, and Ludacris. As you can see I really don't have a single favorite artist. In fact, they often change with my mood.

3. What's your favorite song?
Easy one..."Along the Watchtower" by the Dave Matthews Band. I know that Hendrix and Dylan both did it, but I think I like the Dave version the best. Especially when Leroy Moore rips a mean saxophone solo.

4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
Seeing that I already play the saxophone (soprano, alto, and baritone), I am now in the process of picking up the clarinet and accordian. But the instrument I would love to learn to play would be the piano.

5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
John Coltrane....hands down. Charlie Parker was great and all, but Coltrane was just too cool. You put him and Miles Davis together and the coolness fountain overflows.

Iraqis Celebrate As U.S. Takes Baghdad...

So I got to watch as a mob of Iragis with the help of a tank took down an iron statue of Saddam. I must say it was actually pretty cool. I think it had to be the best images of war I have seen to date. When the statue came down, there were much cheers in the crowd. People started to stomp on the body of the statue. Other Iraqis were kissing soldiers. I mean, if there were small bear-like muppets jumping around, I would swear it was just like the end of "Return of the Jedi". Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to disrespect the moment of freedom for the Iraqi people....but just for a second...when you see the many telecasts of this over and over on the news, just throw some Ewoks in there for good measure and you will see what I am saying.

In the mean time, I am off to my second class for today. When I get back I need to try and find the image of the soldiers from U(sic)GA holding up their college flag and saying they were going to take a shower in Saddam's bathroom. I bet it will be the first one they have had in a year. :P

Sick Sad World

Teens beat mentally retarded man to death with soda bottles...

After I read that article, it was completely disgusted with the world. Sometimes I think they should bring back some of those Babylonian style punishments once again. You know, eye for an eye type thing. If you and a couple friends beat up and kill a mentally retarded man, then I believe that you should get beat up and die by the hands of a mentally retarded mob. Even if that doesn't come to pass, the Karma Police will get those bastards.

Tired...

I woke up tired today. I didn't get much sleep over the weekend and then getting to bed late last night and getting up early this morning didn't help things. Screw you Daylight Savings Time!! You really don't think about that one hour of sleep, but it really has hit me hard so far. I got home early today from work, ate a little lunch, and then fell asleep playing Zelda. How in the hell do you fall asleep playing a video game? Ask me, I did it. So I got in like a 3 hour nap (Hakeber woke me up when she got home from work), made dinner, and now I am finally sitting down to do some homework.

TGIF

Alone on a Friday night, well I found some games and other random stuff (thanks to Milk and Cookies) that will keep you entertained.

Buster Bear - It is not a bear at all.
Queer Duck - Yeah, more gay animals...
Gold Yard - You are a Hobbit-like thief.
Mantis Krew: Urban Riot - Total destruction set to rock music.
No Guerra - Don't ask me what they are saying...but you will recognize the melody.

Another Friday...

That is right folks, time for another Friday Five. Make sure to click "continue reading"

1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?
Whew, that really takes some mental effort so early in the morning. I have lived in 1 condo, 1 house, 3 college dorms, and 1 apartment.

2. Which was your favorite and why?
Of course I think the apartment has been the best thing I have lived in so far...maybe cause I am living with Hakeber. I would like to own a house someday, but for now....this is great.

3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why?
I loath moving...cause I end up doing a crap load of work. I am a strong, tall guy....so everyone asks me to carry their large and heavy objects down three flights of stairs and what not. The people who say they enjoy moving are those who don't lift a finger.

4. What's more important, location or price?
Definitly location. I mean it is a combination of both, but when it boils down to it...I would rather live in the city and pay more than live outside the city (end up commuting into the city) and pay less. As it stands right now, my commute to work or school is less than 15 minutes.

5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)?
Oh great....now you got me started. Well my house (that I guess I would share with a wife/girlfriend) would encompass a lot of different tastes. The portion of the house that I have given the most thought would be the basement. My house would have to have a huge basement. Down then I would install a bar with working taps, a pool table, the home-theater system with surround sound, and of course every gaming system I owned. I got this idea from one of my Dad's students. The guy was like in his thirty, but his basement was decked with all this entertainment down in the basement. The rest of the houe of course was done by his wife. That is probably what I would do. But of course, my game room would include a stripper pole, just in case some lovely lady got the urge to entertain. ;) Let me also mention there would be a urinal down there as well. I am sure you are wondering where that idea came from. Well I have seen basement where there is a working toilet and someone always ends up taking a crap down there. The bad part about that is that gas doesn't escape well in a basement. Put in a urinal to solve this problem.

Updating from school

Why am I updating from school? Because I can now, thanks to Movabletype. Eventually the novelty will wear off, but until then...this is just cool. Oh yeah, if you liked the free cup holder from before, then you will love this vibrator. Alright, I need to grab something to snack on before my next class. I wonder if I can make it to Mickey D's on the other side of campus in time?

Is this thing on?

So updating this site has now become a breeze. I really don't know why I tortured myself for the past few years coding raw html in notepad and pico. I even wore it like a badge of courage too. It is of course a good thing that I can do that, but for keeping a weblog...it's really silly. I showed Hakeber the interface of Movabletype and she wants it on her site now too. brb...I have to put the laundry in. Alright I am back, free laundry service just kicks so much ass. Yeah, that is right...my apartment complex has a free laundry service.

So anyway, I finally got The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest. I still think those two games will cause me to fail this semester (see cam shot), but maybe I can use them as a motivational item. Nah, I doubt it....I will be playing those things constantly. I beat Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64 a while back, so I am starting that one again. It is amazing how much I remember from it. Alright that is it....thought about it too much.... [click here]

April Foolishness

So what have I done since I redesigned the site? I really have done nothing but surfed the Internet trying to catch up on everything. I kinda took a break from things and now everything has changed. In addition, today is April Fools Day. I am just waiting for when Hollywood will produce a movie about this holiday....oh wait, already been done. Since yesterday I have been just playing games and finding other wacky things for everyones amusement. And what better than to display random stuff than a traditional list (people from EKS know what this is all about).

A list:
1. Everyone can learn to juggle
2. MC Saddammer
3. Everyone needs a Terror Meter in their home
4.
5. Get my drink on
6. And my smoke on
7. Then go home with, something to poke on
8. 100% Free Cup Holder!!!
9. I now get all my war stats from the Iraq-o-meter
