Friday Night, just got paid...

1. What is your favorite type of literature to read (magazine, newspaper, novels, nonfiction, poetry, etc.)?
Unfortunately my current favorite type of literature to read are scholarly journal articles. This includes psychological findings of experiments and reviews of other articles.
2. What is your favorite novel?
My favorite novel would have to be Idoru by William Gibson. I liked how the book was in that train of thought kind of narration. It was two stories done at the same time that culminated at the end of the novel.
3. Do you have a favorite poem? (Share it!)
I think one of my favorite poems would have to be "A Dream Within a Dream" by Edgar Allen Poe. Here it is...

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow --
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand --
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep -- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

4. What is one thing you've always wanted to read, or wish you had more time to read?
I have a ton of stuff I have always wanted to read, but I have to read some much stuff for my classes that I just get too tired to read anything else.
5. What are you currently reading?
Wisdom and Creativity by Robert Sternberg and Todd Lubart....you guess it....more of those scholarly journals for class. It is actually pretty interesting. I don't think I have read a work of fiction in years. It is sad.

It has been a rough week and it is barely Hump day...

I am on pain killers right now cause my back is killing me. Normally I am one of those people who just ignores the pain all day til it goes away. Well when it hurts to breathe, you have to fall back on 800mg of Ibuprofen. And the worst part is that I have to go to work tomorrow. Today I had both a class presentation and an exam in two different classes. I thought the presentation went pretty well but I am sure it was apparent that I haven't prepared as much as I should of. The exam was just ass, but I think everyone else in the class probably did horribly on it as well so I don't feel as bad. I am heading to bed hoping that the new day will bring new life to this hurt body of mine.

Weekend?? What weekend?

How evil are you?

You really never realize how much Saturday and Sunday can split your work week up until you start working on the weekends. You lose all since of time. So if you have one of those 9 to 5 jobs during the middle of the week, be thankful cause there is much worse out there. I am sure my tone will change once I get paid this Friday.

So I am scaring myself silly on the new Homeland Security website right now. I mean seriously, this place is really freakin scary. I think this animation best sums up my feelings about the new site. I mean everyday it just seems the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Such a cliche... So like almost a week ago a man got decapitated while fleeing ATL police but that is not the bad part. Looks like some asshat took pics of the scene. It is pictures like those that remind you of your own mortality. Couple that with the fact I watched American Psycho, my weekend has seemed pretty grim. I often wonder how my life would have been different if I had decided not to go to grad school, or even college for that manner. I would like to believe that I would have continued to play the saxophone and ended up playing in a smoke-filled uptown jazz club for much of my adult life. Hey, we all have our dreams...

So last night I had a good time with my GB and Hakeber. We had a little in-prompt-to night on the town sort of thing. We tried to get into Cafe Tu Tu Tango but seemed like everyone else in Buckhead that same idea. So it was off to Atlanta Fish Market instead. Good eats. Then it was off to go clubbing by alas I had wore my super-fresh All white Adidas Superstar II and had a tough time finding a place that had a casual dress code. We ended up going to the Crescent Room which was a pretty happening place. The cover was like $20, which was a bit much for me but I think it was because of the DJ there who was pretty damn good. Overall, I had a good Saturday even if I had to work that morning.

Sugarhill Gang Rulez!!!1!1

Well, looks like Friday Five is once again crappy this week so I am fore go ever trying to answer those questions. I mean really, does anybody really care what my favorite material possession is? That just reflects how shallow some people can be I guess. So instead of all that stuff, I would rather post about stuff like this pic. I wonder if the British would still teach oral sex on him? Of course I wish that some of the girls at my school were taught that, it would have helped them socially adjust better I think. What the hell am I talking about anyway.... I am porn addict just like Dave Chappelle. You know what Mr. Bush, I believe you and Tony Blair are great singers. Of course I am just waiting for them to break out in Daler dance. You know what, I think I will buy my girlfriend one of these, but course she would kill me. I HAEV ALWAYS WATNTED 2 L3ARN HOW 2 TOK 2 OTH3R 12 YAAR OLDS ON AOL!1!! OMG LOL NOW I FINALY HAEV TEH 2L 2 DO IT1!1! WTF Alrighty kids, I am getting tired and I need to hit the books a little for sleep totally creeps in (grad school means you give up your social life). In addition the shoes I list last time, I also want some Red, White, and Blue Reebok Pumps. Yeah, that is right....eat you heart out Air Force Ones.

Cold snap!

My commenting system has been messing up and slowing down this site. I guess that is what you get when too many people sign up for the same service and then bog down the system. I wonder how long before they start charging money to use a simple commenting system. I should just redo this site in php...now if I only knew how to do that...

So I now think I am turning into Carrie from Sex in the City. That is right, I have like this whole new obsession with shoes I have never had before. I think it stems from the fact I was only allowed one pair of shoes at a time when I was growing up. As Sigmund Freud might say, I am back lashing against the strong parental rules I was confined by. My current obsessions are some wheat colored Timberland's, black with white laces California style Puma's, and cream colored Chuck Talor All Star Converse. The only problem I fine is that my foot is way to find regularly. I mean when your foot is like 13 (14 in a Nike) they just stop making shoes in your size. There is a place downtown that sells plus size shoes mainly. Sometimes you can find some of the basketball stars in there buying shoes. Cause when are you gonna find some dress shoes in a 22? Well it is another day at work for me...this is getting old fast.

Weekend in review

Everyone has their own theory of U.S. foreign policy. This is something I figured out while working in a tire shop. It is amazing, even technicians have their own thoughts and beliefs about the current situation with Iraq and N. Korea. Whatever you might believe about the upcoming war with Iraq, it is your own opinion and very unique to you. What I found is that it is human nature to assimilate information with gather in something we can digest and use later. We develop our own theories of how the world operates within the confines of our own minds. It is when one realizes that even though they might have the world figured out, they still have only figured the world centered around them that true exploration can begin.

Well enough of that...I had a great weekend. Valentine's day is always good when you have a girlfriend (just not good to the bank account). Spent the night inside (meaning I didn't have the foresight to make reservations at a nice restaurant) and had a candlelight steak dinner for two (T-bone steaks were on special) and then watch a DVD (I was stupid and rented this thinking it was gonna be romantic in some strange way) and then the new porno (which had a little too much butt action for the GF). The bad thing was that I work the very next day so it was off to bed relatively early. Saturday we went to eat at the wonderful New Orleans type restaurant Copeland's and also saw Daredevil. I must say that it was a very good movie even though some of the reviews I have seen have been harsh. I saw a preview for the Hulk which looks pretty good but seems like it will lack some content in place of cool special effects. Daredevil didn't over do the special effect and have a lot of good hand-on-hand combat. I think is Matt Damon and Ben Affleck ever got in a fight, Ben would certainly kick Matt ass. The best part of the movie had to be Jon Favreau who was the best comic relief in the whole thing. One of those great lesser known actors. The only thing bad about this whole weekend is the fact that I have had to work the whole time and I don't get an off day til the middle of the week. Thus is my life...

Make 'em say, Uuuuuhhhh...

So, I am starting to take some more pictures now that I finally have my digital camera back. Today I spent almost the entire day installing new gauges in my truck. You can see pictures of my xtreme here (even though their aren't many right now). I would have to say they are big improvement of the last gauges I had. I will be taking more pics of my truck but it dirty as hell right now. Yesterday for my class in Multicultural Education, I had to take a ride on Marta from North to South and make observations. This wasn't a big deal to me cause I have ridden Marta before. However for two of my classmates, it was big step cause it was the their first time. So as you guessed it, I took pictures of the whole event. You know what my dad said the word Marta actually meant? He said it was an acronym for "Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta". What can I say, my dad is a bit of a racist....good thing I am not like him in that way. Having my camera back like crack....I take it everywhere now. My aunt sent me something funny over email that I thought I would share. I wish I had written this in college. I do have to agree with the senator that war is gonna rule ass, but why in the hell did you have link to the gay flashy thing? Speaking of gay... help donate to a gay college boy.

So many people, too many Escalades

Which Homestar Runner character are you?
this quiz was made by jurjyfrort

Man, my head is still swimming from the weekend events. Friday night I chilled with Lisa and Davey and we went to the Planetarium and then out to dinner. I was kind of dissappointed by the show though...I was expecting Charlton Heston voice to come on and talk about the Big Bang Theory. Didn't get that, but I did learn you in African stories female animals wear clothes while the male animals run around naked. I also learned that goats had four eyes and that you should throw away your hoes in April. Those were some crazy Africans I must say. I also went a got a new porno that day, but I haven't watched it yet. On Saturday I spent most of the day working and then went out with Kenny to celebrate his 21st birthday. I had a good time, but I was surrounded by gay men most of the night. I drank a lot but not enough I think. I also got to hang with Dove who truly went mental. Sunday has been the day of rest. I was my truck and cleaned off the new sunroof. And with my head still hurting, I am gonna hit the sack. I go back to work tomorrow.

Sunroof looks tight!

You know what day it is....

1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? If you didn't have breakfast, why not?
I had a cheese danish and some orange juice from the Wild Bean Cafe' in a BP. I got cause I was on my way to get my sunroof put in and I needed something before I waited 4 hours for the installation. If you have never tried the pastries from you local BP, you might want to give them a look see.
2. What's your favorite cereal?
I really don't have a favorite cereal. I do have a few select cereals that I do choose over and over again. Frosted Flakes are great, but they are even better when you put them in orange juice. Cheerios are also good, but even better when honey is poured over them. I also like dry Frosted Mini Wheats. I have very strange tastes.
3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change?
I eat out all the damn time it seems. Of course that is not a bad thing. When you live in a large city like Atlanta, you just have a ton of choices to pick from. Cooking in a sense becomes expensive because of the many cheap food options that are available.
4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that?
Well I really haven't given it much thought. Yesterday I thought I was gonna make some Bratwurst with Sauerkraut. I have a good recipe I came up with. But I think might change after Davey and Lisa IM'd me last night saying they wanted to double with Hakeber and I tonight. We might go out, we might not... we will see.
5. What's your favorite restaurant? Why?
I favorite restaurant has to be RuSan's. They have a bunch of locations around the metro area and serve that California style of sushi. The great thing is that you can eat good sushi and not spend an arm and a leg like many other places in the ATL. If you live round here and haven't tried it...drop me a line and we will check it out.

Rough Week

Well, tomorrow will be a relaxing day for me having the day off. I also get my sunroof installed as well. Since working at NTB, I have had to pleasure to drive some really nice cars once in a while. One of the features I was always envious of was the sunroof. So I decided to get one.

But instead of talking about myself this post I want to draw your attention to two recent Internet phenomena. One of them is hilarious and the other is sad. We will start with the sad one first so we can end on a high note. Recently, an IRC user by the name of over dosed himself on prescription medication in front many fellow chatters. His brother has set up a memorial site for him. What made the act so disturbing was the fact he did it while chatting and on webcam in front of everyone. Some chatters tried to figure out ways to get im help while others did nothing. His last words in the chat logs were " I told u I was hardcore." Some sites popped up that had merchandise you could purchase with that very phrase on it. Out of respect those sites have been removed.

The second Internet fad has been the surprise instant fame of one Bubb Rubb and his recent commentary on a local news station in California. Mr. Rubb commented on the newest fad for vehicle, the whistle tips, which make vehicle sound absurdly loud. When asked what these whistle tips so appealing, he remarked it was the "whoo whoo" sound. This of course sparked and Internet reaction. One of which was a music video featuring the infamous catch phrase. And of course the Bubb Rubb sound board. With these two recent reactions to real world situations, it makes you wonder what this online micro-culture will produce next.

Happy Groundhogs Day!

I really don't know what to make of this weekend. I feel like I was run over by a Mack truck or something cause it all just flew by. My boss forgot which days I had school and scheduled me to work on one of those days. Guess he is really trying to screw me out of making any money this week. Who cares anyway, I think I will spend some of my hard earned cash on a moonroof for the truck. As soon as I get the Nikon Coolpix back I will take some pictures. I miss having pics of my truck on this site.

You kind of realize the world you live in when a great tragedy or accomplishment occurs. Yesterday I am sure every one knows that the Space Shuttle burned up on re-entry. I worked that day. What amazed me the most was not the people who had no idea what was going on, but the people who did and still wanted to have service done to their vehicles. It seemed like for everyone of my customers who watched the TV, didn't seem to be moved. I hated the fact that we had to keep working during that moment, but people kept coming in. I would ask them, "Did you hear about the Space Shuttle yet?" They would then say, "Yeah, that is too bad." After 9-11, I think America has become desentized to mass death in the media. Within seconds CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, and countless other news stations had experts and new reporters explaining and describing the events unfold. But for the customers at NTB, it was business as usual.

Despite all of this, the world went back to normal at Yellow River Game Ranch where Georgia's own General Lee predicted an early spring this year. It is frighten sometimes how accurate these little critters are sometimes. Of course his counterpart Punxsutawney Phil was smoking some crack when he said that we would get six more weeks of winter. Cmon dude! Check the weather reports before you make you final decision.
